American companies are always looking for ways to support the Military Community, and employment is one of the most effective ways to have a positive impact. Here are four of the most well-known companies that hire Veterans and Military Spouses.
Amazon
Amazon consistently shows a commitment to bringing Military Spouses into the workforce and has actively cultivated a reputation for hiring members of the Military Community. Currently, they employ more than 10,000 Military Spouses across all their business units and are looking to grow that number. Amazon has pledged to hire more than 100,000 Military Spouses and U.S. Veterans by 2024.
The company also provides hiring opportunities with its comprehensive Military Spouse Fellowship programs. These 12-week fellowship opportunities provide Military Spouses with professional training, networking, events, and hands-on job experience. For more information about hiring and fellowship opportunities, check out the Amazon jobs page.
Capital One
Capital One has partnered with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s nationwide initiative, Hiring Our Heroes, to connect with the Military Community. An early partner and advocate for this initiative, Capital One has helped to ensure that Veterans and their spouses find meaningful employment and a smooth transition into civilian life. The company has received numerous awards related to military employment and is a proud member of the Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP).
Similar to Amazon, Capitol One offers a comprehensive Fellowship program to both Veterans and Military Spouses. This 6-week program offers the opportunity to receive on-the-job work experience with the potential for full-time hiring at the end of the fellowship.
Hilton
Over the past six years, Hilton has hired more than 35,000 employees from the Military Community, including Veterans, transitioning service members, and Military Spouses. They have made a commitment to hire and retain even more Military Spouses in the future. Instead of simply providing job opportunities, Hilton emphasizes their goal of trying to connect Military Spouses with a rewarding career path. Despite being in the hospitality industry, Hilton also offers several career opportunities within their Help Desk and Customer Service organizations, which provide remote work opportunities. This has afforded Military Spouses the flexibility to work from home and avoid a career change in case of an unexpected PCS (Permanent Change of Station).
Verizon
In 2019, Verizon was named a Top 5 Military Spouse-Friendly Employer and has continued to emphasize the importance of hiring Military Spouses into the workforce. In order to reach these talent pools, they have created several programs that are dedicated to talent identification and acquisition. This includes their Military Spouse Talent Network, which connects potential candidates with career opportunities, and their Military Recruitment Team, which continuously matches skills with job roles during all phases of employment.
These are just a few of the “Military-friendly” companies that are looking for your talent for their team.
